1. On p. 150, it says, “In her heart, it was she who felt grateful. . . because that afternoon she had discovered her Aunt Polly’s spirit alive and well in all the kitchens in Ipswitch where pies were being baked for the right reasons.”
What were the “wrong” reasons? Why are these “wrong?” What are the “right” reasons to bake a pie, or really to do just about anything?
2. Reread pages 156 and 157. Describe the role that Jane Quizenberry played in Ruth’s transformation (change). In other words, how did the existence of Jane Quizenberry help Ruth realize what she had been wrong about with regards to Alice?
